A Woodsy Fall Engagement Party
Last weekend I hosted an engagement party for two of my closest friends! With all of their friends and family in town, we threw a Fall-inspired woodsy picnic to celebrate their upcoming nuptials. I’ve shared my inspiration, menu, decor ideas and even my outfit in this post, so scroll through to check out the special event!
The Decor
The engaged couple loves the outdoors - whether it’s a walk outside with their pup or hiking a mountain. For the decor, I wanted to incorporate these woodsy elements into an elevated picnic.
We used three tables to set up various stations - one for food, one for a trail mix bar (check out the next section below!) and one for the engagement gift - a print of the San Juan Islands (where they’ll get married!) for guests to sign.
What I love about planning an event is thinking of the small details that will make guests smile. Incorporating simple but beautiful gestures, such as photos of the couple, make it the personal and meaningful.

The Trail Mix Bar
What couple who loves to hike doesn’t love trail mix?! I thought a trail mix bar would be a fun addition to the party, and an easy way for guests to snack throughout the event. I ordered Personalized Happy Trails bags to full up and enjoy around the event.
A lot of the vintage crates and accessories were borrowed from my mom’s beautiful antique collections which brought out the woodsy aesthetic I was going for.
I mix and matched nuts, dried fall fruit and white chocolate chips and got adorable silver scoops for serving.
The charcuterie Spread
The star of the event! This couple is known for some amazing cheese plates, so a requirement for their celebration was to have a gorgeous cheese and charcuterie spread. Again staying with the fall theme, I chose to garnish with moodier red grapes, figs, green olives, candied orange and dried dates.
Many of the crackers were gluten-free to accommodate guests’ diets, and stinkier cheeses were grouped together.
The cheese spread was meant to serve as more than just an appetizer for the party, but we also served a variety of Homegrown sandwich halves and assorted quinoa and green salads that we served in deli containers for easy grab and go (ahem picnic theme!).
For dessert (unfortunately not pictured), we ordered mini berry pies from Pie.
The Look
Perfectly matching the fall theme for the party, I wore black gingham pants from Zara, a black turtleneck sweater and black heeled Steve Madden booties. The thick heel is a requirement for any party on the grass!
